Happy Birthday to Us + Fun June Freebie!

Heather O'Brien Design | Custom Wedding Invitations | Jacksonville, Florida

Today marks 7 years of making my mark on the stationery world. It really is so hard to believe. It so true what they say, the days drag on and the years fly by. When I started this business back in 2010 I was fresh out of college (graphic design major!) and just married. We had a new house and no kiddos and I was itching to put this new found passion of the stationery and wedding world to good use. Y’all, if you could have seen my business back then, it’s quite comical. You can actually see a little progression of my logos and website over the years in a previous blog post. Let’s just say that my designs, my style and my brand have grown for the better over the years. It all comes with the territory of trial and error and finding your niche in the world. When I started, I was taking in any type of work I could get. I think my first “paying client” was a $40 logo for a friend’s mom’s business.

Over the years, I have narrowed down my style and my ideal client and how I can best serve them, not only with an exceptional client experience (super important to me), but with a superior product that will become a centerpiece for the biggest day of their lives. It seriously brings me so much joy working with my clients. My clients truly appreciate the art behind each and every piece of stationery and we bond over the months of working back and forth on all of their pieces. I can honestly say, I love my job so much.

Being a small business owner is no easy task. Over the last 7 years I have worn every hat possible, accountant, social media guru, web designer, brand designer, content writer, you name it, I do it. But I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. The joy and satisfaction I get from running a successful business for the last 7 years is an incredible feeling. My biggest piece of advice that I could give if you’re just starting out as a new business owner is don’t give up. It’s hard, really hard sometimes. But that is what makes it so worth it. When you over come those hurdles, when you book that ideal client, or when you realize that you’ve finally “made it”. It is SO worth it. It sounds so cliché, but it so true, if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. I can say this statement is 100% true and I am so blessed that I took that leap 7 years ago with a spare bedroom and laptop. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

Here is to all the hard working small business owners. Hats off to you for making our world go round!
