If I could reiterate anything about being a business owner, it would be to get out and network. I truly believe it is so essential and beneficial to both you and your business. I’ve talked previously about why networking is so important for you and your business. I am so blessed to be part of our local Tuesdays Together chapter here in Jacksonville, Florida. It is part of the national organization, The Rising Tide Society (RTS), a creative entrepreneur group to help bring entrepreneurs together. Their motto is Community over Competition. I am the Education Chair for this group and I help to secure speakers for each of our monthly meetings based on the topics that RTS releases.
Earlier this year, our chapter put together the first ever Tide Retreat for some of our members. It was a fun little get away with lots of laughs and some good education. Myself, along with our 5 other leaders, spent about 9 months planning every little detail of this retreat. We hosted 35 creative entrepreneurs for 4 days at two houses in beautiful Destin, Florida. These houses were 3 stories each and absolutely stunning. Each one comfortably held the attendees, had a full kitchen for us to host, heated pools, and connecting backyards. It was the perfect little retreat for everyone to get away from the daily tasks of their business for a few days, hear from some amazing speakers, and focus on their goals.
The first day we greeted our attendees with a welcome dinner and a champagne toast to kick off the weekend and spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other. The next day we welcomed them with a bagel wall and coffee bar sponsored by Handmade Rentals, Calligraphy by Cami, and Social Grounds. We kicked off our education series with Kristin Wilson of the Society for Creative Founders talking to us all about business planning and setting goals for our business! Next we had some amazing breakout sessions where the attendees could pick which of the sessions they wanted to attend, hand lettering, publishing 101, or camera basics. We made sure there was a little something for everyone to enjoy!
We ended the day with a headshot session from Amber Nicole Portrait and dinner out on the town!
The next day we learned allll about social media with Aleira Peterson of Go Bright Marketing. For lunch, we send out the attendees on a fun scavenger hunt all around Destin so they had some time to site see and grab some local bites. Our last main session of the day was with Karin Charleston, learning all about accounting and taxes. Basically all the stuff we don’t want to know, but we need to know! ha!
Our last set of breakout sessions included flat lay styling, couples posing, and floral centerpieces. It was seriously such a fun selection and I enjoyed popping over to all of the different sessions and watching everyone try their hand at something new!
We ended the retreat with an amazing Fiesta spread sponsored by Bridal Beauty Magazine and a fun game night to recap all that we had learned over the weekend.
It was truly an amazing weekend getting to know some of these amazing business owner better and also actually being able to spend time working on our businesses for a change. We already have next year’s retreat in the works and can’t wait to see what we have in store!
